Now that I celebrated that special Medicare birthday (ahem…,didn’t see that one coming) apparently the door has been opened for a few to wonder whether or not I am planning on retiring soon, and if so, what is the future of BCM?

Retire? Absolutely not.  I’m much too young for that!

Hille, George and I have spent the last several years structuring BCM so that it has generational legs and can to continue to go on for an indeterminate period of time (years and years).  Here’s how we’ve done that.  We have divided BCM into three operating areas: 1) management of investment management of client assets, 2) management of the financial planning process, and finally, 3) management of the firm’s operations and business needs.  Over the last four years, we have created a scalable organization that has transitioned from individuals doing multiple job functions to more role specialization.

To that end we have hired Montgomery Gossen CFP, Erin McMenemon MBA, and Jonas Lowery CFP to work with us.  Erin and I have been working closely together as I have been teaching her our approach to portfolio management, and Montgomery and Jonas are Certified Financial Planners, as financial planning has become more and more important to many of our clients.

We’ve also brought in Madison Holland (front desk, client services) and Chris Bordes MBA (operations manager) to keep all back-office operations running smoothly (that in and of itself is a big job).  Check out their bios on our website.

All five of these people are in their late twenties to early thirties, sharp as tacks, and have a lifetime of career ahead of them.  They are BCM’s future, and we are working with them with exactly that in mind.

If you’ve not met the rest of the people who call BCM home, come by for an introduction.  I am sure you’ll be as impressed with them as we are.

So no, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.  As long as I can remember my own name, and what I ate for breakfast this morning (ha!), I’ll still be quite active here at BCM as the Chief Investment Officer, surrounded and supported by a terrific group of individuals.  After all, my family accounts are held here too!
